THE GLASS CASTLE

FAMILY – is a group of persons united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption, constituting a single household and interacting with each other in their respective social positions, usually those of spouses, parents, children, and siblings (brittanica.com) Now what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word FAMILY!

THE GLASS CASTLE, was a recommendation by two of my friends and they both CRIED… So I had to see what the hype was all about. I have to agree with them and state that the movie was PRETTY GOOD. My binging is usually on NETFLIX, but this one is an AMAZON PRIME selection.

THE GLASS CASTLE – based on a book Jeannette Walls (memoir.) Depicting the life and hardship of  Jeanette Walls (Brie Larson.) Jeanette and here siblings must learn to take care of themselves. Her free-spirited parents both inspire and inhibit them. Jeanettes Father (Woody Harrelson,) brilliant and charismatic, captured their imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Meanwhile, their mother (Naomi Watts.) a typical domestic housewife, who didn’t want to take on the work of raising a family. It’s the parents responsibility to make sure, their children get the BEST CARE, but this isn’t the case here. The children must learn to raise themselves, while their parents try to figure themselves out. Good story, strong performances, dramatic, but at times felt a little over done. Overall a good watch, and if you are an emotional/sensitive person, make sure you have TISSUES. 2ThumbsUP gives this movie 3.5/5.

“OHANA, means FAMILY, and FAMILY means NO ONE get’s left behind or FORGOTTEN!” (Lilo and Stitch.)

BRAIN ON FIRE!!

Throughout the years MEDICAL technology has advanced so much and we are more then grateful for that. There have been many cures, new medIcation and procedures but even then DOCTOR’s have mis-diagnose patients (results based on tests.) Alright, so you must be wondering what the heck is all this about. Well I came across a movies on Netflix few days ago BRAIN ON FIRE!!!

MISDIAGNOSED

BRAIN ON FIRE – An aspiring writer, Susannah Cahalan (Chloë Grace Moretz) working for the New York Post. Begins to experience strange things (seeing people—who are not there—who talk about her, annoying noises and tactile sensations. Susannah seeks some medical help, get’s blood tests, MRI’s and everything turns up normal. She then resumes her daily life again. But thing’s get worse and she starts having seizures, her parents find out and admit her. After several other test’s and ruling out all disease’s, Doctor’s then diagnose her with schizophrenia or some other psychological problem and advise her to be sent to a mental institution. I’m gonna stop here because I’m not here to tell you the WHOLE story… The moral of the story, doctor’s can sometimes mis-diagnose and just treat them with meds/treatments that don’t HELP at all. Chloë Grace did a brilliant job playing Susannah’s character, great story, remember NOT all medical diagnoses are accurate and you shouldn’t give up!! 2ThumbsUP gives this movie 4.5/5 only because the story was very inspirational and based on true events.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Women today are stronger and competitive in everything they do but can you imagine a place where they are treated like CRAP. Their only existence is to serve the MAN and be a bloody house wife. Now let’s get to the point, I was a bit skeptical in watching Hulu’s show THE HANDMAID’S TALE. I didn’t like the concept and found it dull, but after hearing about from friends and family I decided to give it another try. At first, the show seems like it’s 50 Shade’s of Grey because theres nothing but SEX, but after few episodes it picks up and is really GOOD.

HANG EM ALL

THE HANDMAID’S TALE –  Set in Gilead, a totalitarian society in what used to be part of the United States. A regime that treats women as property of the state.  Few fertile women become Handmaid’s and are forced into sexual servitude. Having no choice or control, their Commander forces himself upon them, in hopes to get pregnant, while the wife sits in on this ridiculous ritual and holds the Handmaid’s hand, while the husband does his thing. Things change when one of these women, Offred, is determined to survive and find her daughter who was taken away. Great acting, good story, lot’s of disturbing scenes (the way women are treated.) If this got you intrigued, check it out your self. No WOMEN should be treated like this, specially in the world we live in NOW. 2ThumbsUP gives this show 4/5.

Wonder- reviewed

Have you ever been a victim or know someone who has been BULLIED. This is a very serious issue and is on the rise at schools. Children of all ages, who seem different amongst their peers. Always tend to face some kind of abuse and in worst case scenarios leads to suicide.  Those of you who are parents, you should show your children this movie. Let them see and get a feel of what happens when someone is being bullied.

Jacob Tremblay delivers another strong performance, great story, and a powerful message. 2ThumbsUP gives this movie 4/5.
